The last word
So it's all over. We got a quarter of a million votes across England and Wales. George and I got almost 5 percent each, I needed only 4 or 5 thousand votes to win a seat on the Assembly, and George needed around 25,000 votes to get into the European parliament.
We both beat the BNP and I beat the Greens as well in the mayoral election. More importantly we had some brilliant results in inner city areas. We are now very strongly placed in parts of Birmingham, where we got 7 percent across the city, in north and east London _especially Tower Hamlets where our Euro vote came top of all the candidates _and in parts of the north of England and the Midlands.
That is a great springboard for future by elections and we're already discussing which seats we should stand in.
On a personal level I have enjoyed it all immensely and I have felt overwhelmed at times by how lovely people have been: neighbours, old friends, family have all been very supportive.
I have learnt a huge amount about London, about the different areas, and about elections.
Thanks to everyone who has helped in any way. How will I fill the extra time in my day now _ this is my last blog. I'm grateful to everyone who read it and keep your eyes open _I'm still around and campaigning, and hopefully I'll be back in future elections.
